How to publish in JAMA and NEJM and still live in Gdańsk?

Past event

A workshop combined with a recruitment process for junior researchers joining the research group of the Department of Oncological, Transplant and General Surgery, held on 25 January 2025 in Gdańsk. The group’s work includes the Horizon Europe ECOPOP trial, the NORDICC trial, studies based on the Polish Colonoscopy Screening Platform (PCSP), machine learning models for surgical risk and duration, and molecular methods for colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

What the research group works on

ECOPOP

Horizon Europe trial on organ-preserving treatment for early colorectal cancer.

NORDICC

International randomized trial on colonoscopy screening.

PCSP-based research

Studies built on the Polish Colonoscopy Screening Platform.

Machine learning & molecular diagnostics

Risk and surgery-duration prediction models, and molecular methods for CRC diagnosis and monitoring.

Format

The event combined an educational workshop with a competitive recruitment process. Candidates completed a registration form with a cross-disciplinary test of scientific methodology, language, and analytical reasoning. The top-scoring candidates were invited as active participants, with the meeting open to others as passive participants; the group aimed to recruit 3–6 junior researchers to join the team on an ongoing basis.
